Friday night impromptu fun

So yesterday I managed my run. A measly 7 miles as I was so damn tired still. Had a tired week all in all. I made some bread, was very pleased with the outcome.

I then got too cosy in the kitchen and went on to cupcakes. Now I am funny about chocolate cake, always have been. It’s too much of a good thing in my opinion. But red velvet I love. And when I last went to the Hummingbird Bakery I sampled their vanilla with chocolate icing. Amazing. So I have tried to recreate this icing and chocolate vermicelli topping, using the icing method from the back of Cake Days.

The swirl is harder than the diagram tries to suggest. I imagine it will get easier with repetition. The sponge was so light and squishy it made icing bloody hard!

Anyhow, I went off to meet Harry and some folk about Out Of Office. Only one showed up! But he is a nice guy who appears keen so that’s good. We headed on out to All Bar One for a bottle of Rose. Which turned into two. Which turned into another in Platillos. Which turned into dinner at Zizzi. Which was accompanied by two bottles of Rose. Pete was very drunk, bless him. Had to get him home eventually. Straight into bed. Had a terrible night sleep, but up early so as to get ready in time to head off to Manchester this morning to see Catherine and Abbie for afternoon tea. Living the dream!

Blog soon with some secret baking preview snaps!

– I don’t run for pleasure. I run for the love of cake. And bread. And pie.
